Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome
نویسنده
چکیده
reater trochanteric pain syndrome is a common condition that most commonly affects middle-aged and elderly women and potentially younger active male and female individuals.1 Symptoms include pain referable to the lateral hip as well as point tenderness that often interferes with activity and sleeping.2,3 Contrary to prior misconceptions that symptoms were due to underlying bursitis, it has been shown that the underlying etiology for greater trochanteric pain syndrome is most commonly tendinosis or a tendon tear of the gluteus medius, gluteus minimus, or both at the greater trochanter and that tendon inflammation (or tendinitis) is not a major feature.4–7 In addition, adjacent bursal distention is uncommon, and the bursa is neither inflamed nor a cause of patient symptoms in most situations.7,8 Treatment of greater trochanteric Jon A. Incidence of greater trochanteric pain syndrome in active duty US military servicemembers.
Although greater trochanteric pain syndrome is thought to be a common musculoskeletal disorder, little has been reported on the incidence rates of the disorder. The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence and demographic risk factors of greater trochanteric pain syndrome in a United States military population. Multivariate Poisson regression analysis was used to estimate the rate o...

Greater trochanteric pain syndrome (GTPS) is a common cause of lateral hip pain. Most cases respond to conservative treatments with a few refractory cases requiring surgical intervention. For many years, this condition was believed to be caused by trochanteric bursitis, with treatments targeting the bursitis. More recently gluteal tendinopathy/tears have been proposed as potential causes. Treat...

BACKGROUND Greater trochanteric pain syndrome is often a manifestation of underlying gluteal tendinopathy. Extracorporeal shock wave therapy is effective in numerous types of tendinopathies. HYPOTHESIS Shock wave therapy is an effective treatment for chronic greater trochanteric pain syndrome. STUDY DESIGN Case control study; Level of evidence, 3. METHODS Thirty-three patients with chroni...

INTERVENTIONS Injectio...
متن کاملGreater trochanteric pain syndrome.
Pain around the greater trochanter is still a common clinical problem that may be secondary to a variety of either intra-articular or periarticular pathologies. Gluteal tendon pathologies are one of the primary causes of greater trochanteric pain, with attrition of the fasciae latae against the gluteus medius and minimus tendons, and the trochanteric bursa being possible causes. Key sonographic...
